As of March 19th, 2020 the U.S. Department of State has been closed nationwide for passport expediting. This closure has gone on far longer than anyone anticipated. As of late June, the government offices are starting to allow employees back in to work on the backlog of applications that has developed from standard applications being taken at post offices since March. The State Dept. has made it clear that they are in phase 1 of their reopening plan. It will not be until phase 3 of the reopening that they open their doors for new expedited applications.
